Digital learning

In the last few years, Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) has seen rapid growth in the use of digital learning to deliver healthcare education and training. In response, we have procured a Learning Management System (LMS) called Y Ty Dysgu (pronounced ‘err tee dusk-ee’). This will replace our legacy systems such as Maxcourse and ensure a consistent approach to quality assurance.

Y Ty Dysgu will help deliver multi-professional learning for the health and care workforce in Wales.

If you work or are training in healthcare, you can register for your free account. Work is ongoing to develop new areas and to migrate existing learning materials onto Y Ty Dysgu. This means your area may not be represented yet or have limited resources temporarily. If you have any problems, please contact HEIW.YTyDysgu@wales.nhs.uk.

Y Ty Dysgu also hosts HEIW’s Digital Capability Framework. Self-evaluation tool so individuals can better understand the digital skills, competencies, and behaviours, they need. Available for use by our healthcare colleagues across Wales, the self-assessment generates a personalised summary report with links to recommended resources. Individual responses are private, but the anonymised data will provide an overview of the digital capabilities of the workforce to help us plan.

Involving digital transformation and simulation areas of HEIW, we are also exploring the use of emerging and immersive technologies, such as VR (virtual reality). These can help deliver effective and scalable education and training.

If you’d like to know more about our digital learning work or how you can benefit from it, please contact HEIW.learntech@wales.nhs.uk.
