In August 2012, the GMC released details of its new arrangements for the formal recognition of medical trainers in secondary care (and in primary care for those not accredited as GP trainers) in a document entitled 'Recognising and Approving Trainers: The Implementation Plan'
Trainer Recognition in Wales
It is the responsibility of the Wales Deanery to ensure that all postgraduate trainers (i.e. Educational Supervisors and Named Clinical Supervisors) across NHS Wales are recognised as such.
The Deanery is committed to recognising, valuing and supporting its trainers in providing high quality education and training which, in turn, leads to excellent standards of patient care. As such, the Deanery has developed a comprehensive 'Guide to Trainer Recognition' in Wales which is designed as a resource for all those involved in medical education and training or who wish to be involved in teaching and training in the future. Please click on the document below to access the guide.
For further information on the trainer recognition process please contact your Local Faculty Lead for Trainer Support, details of whom can be obtained from your local Postgraduate Centre. Alternatively email the Wales Deanery's Quality Unit or telephone (029) 2068 7491.
